You Don’t Have to Love Being in Photos to Have Beautiful Ones

Many women tell me the same thing before their session:

“I’m not photogenic.”
“I don’t know how to pose.”
“I’m not very comfortable in front of the camera.”

Many of us feel this way at first, it’s normal.

But the truth is, you don’t have to love being photographed to have images you’ll be grateful you have.

Beautiful Isn’t About Perfection

It’s about capturing your family as it is.

No perfect poses. No forced smiles. Just real moments, real play, and real hugs.

These are the images that matter — the ones that show connection, personality, and life exactly as it happens. Years from now, you’ll treasure the honesty, the warmth and you might even laugh at the funny faces your children made along the way.

You Don’t Have to Know How to Pose

Most of us worry about looking awkward in front of the camera. How do I stand? Where do I put my hands? I do it too, we’re not supermodels, and we don’t need to be :)

During my sessions, I don’t ask you to stand a certain way — there are no perfect poses. I guide you with ideas and gentle prompts, so you’re naturally moving, interacting, and simply being with your family. There are so many photos I can capture while you’re “just” sitting with your children singing their favourite song, or holding them close in a hug. My favourite photos happen when you’re in the moment — when your child is playing with your hair, running around holding your hand, or laughing at something silly they say. These are the moments I love to capture, without anything feeling forced.

And while I don’t necessarily tell you exactly how to pose, I will guide you on the best spots to capture the most flattering light, how to use the wind to gently lift your hair without it getting in the way, or the best way to angle yourself so your little one’s expressions are perfectly captured.

Your Children See Something Different

You may see tired eyes or details you’d change.

Your children notice you.

The little ways you’re present, the moments you play together, the laughter you share.

When they look back at these photos 20 years from now, all they’ll remember is the joy of being with you.

The Real Reason to Step In

The most common regret I hear from older clients is not that they didn’t take enough photos of their children. It’s that they weren’t in them. Not because they disliked photography — but because they were waiting to feel ready.

You don’t have to love being in photos. You simply need a photographer who knows how to make you feel at ease, guide you well and create images that feel natural. If you’ve been thinking about finally stepping in front of the camera, I’m so glad you found me 🤍
